The first injury of Tennessee Titans camp Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan said today that CB Chidobe Awuzie will miss a couple of weeks with a calf strain. This will be the last time I say this, but it is so refreshing to get an honest answer on a player’s injury during training camp. Mike Vrabel would not have even confirmed what type of injury Awuzie had much less how much time he would miss.
Callahan also said he wants injured players to be around the practice after getting treatment each day:

Under Vrabel, injured guys went into the witness protection program. Once they were injured no one saw them again until they returned to the practice field.

2 DAYS AGO - Thomas Shea-USA TODAY Sports
Can Treylon Burks make an impact for the Tennessee Titans this season? It goes without saying that Tennessee Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks is entering a massive training camp period. The 2022 first-round pick has come nowhere close to meeting expectations. The Titans are no longer relying on him after adding Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd earlier this offseason.
Burks is no higher than WR4 on the depth chart behind Ridley, DeAndre Hopkins, and Boyd. Burks has an opportunity at training camp to endear himself to Brian Callahan and Nick Holz, ensuring he maintains a role in the passing offense. General manager Ran Carthon claims he’s seen a more mature version of the player this offseason.
“I think Treylon has really grown up,” Carthon said. “He sent us a picture of his new physique during the offseason. He really took to heart the conversation that he had with myself and coach Callahan. He’s completely bought in. We’ve messaged back and forth Collapse

Confirmation that Ran Carthon had a deal to trade Derrick Henry and was overruled. Dan Pompei wrote a really good article today about Derrick Henry. There are a lot of cool details in there about Henry, how much he loves football, and the lengths he goes to in order to keep his body in shape (spending about $240,000 a year to do so!). It is going to suck watching The King play for the Baltimore Ravens this season.
One of the more interesting details in the story was confirmation of a widely reported rumor from last year’s NFL trade deadline - Ran Carthon had a deal in place to send Henry to the Ravens but “others in the Titans hierarchy apparently were not on board with the deal, so Henry played out the season in Nashville.” Some people are mad about this. I applaud it!

Ran Carthon should be on the phone Multiple reports today are saying that Brandon Aiyuk has requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers. There have been reports all offseason that he wanted a new deal. The 49ers have said they are not going to give him a new deal and are not going to trade him. Now it will be interesting to see if Aiyuk reports when the 9ers open training camp.
Ran Carthon is familiar with the San Francisco front office considering he was there before the Tennessee Titans hired him away. Carthon should be on the phone with them right now. The Titans have a solid receiver room, but they need some youth. Aiyuk is just 26 years old while the Titans' top three receivers will all be 30 or older at some point during the season (DeAndre Hopkins is 32. Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd both turn 30 during the season). Add to that the fact that Hopkins and Boyd both have expiring contracts, and you can see that the Titans are far from set Collapse

7/11/2024 - Denny Simmons / The Tennessean / USA TODAY NETWORK
How will Jamal Adams’ addition impact the Tennessee Titans defense? The Tennessee Titans made a splash on Thursday when they signed three-time Pro Bowler Jamal Adams to a one-year contract. General manager Ran Carthon had long been alluding to an incoming move at safety. Adams will seemingly be tasked with playing opposite Amani Hooker as the official Kevin Byard replacement (The Titans never really replaced him last season).
The concerns with Adams are age and injury related. He’s suffered significant injuries in three consecutive seasons. Dating our research back to the previous four campaigns, Adams has nearly missed as many contests (33) as he’s played in (34).
The former No. 6 overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft appeared in nine games for the Seattle Seahawks this past season. A known liability in coverage, Pro Football Focus credited Adams with allowing 28 receptions on 34 targets for 292 yards and two touchdowns en Collapse

The Tennessee Titans have an intriguing sophomore defender on their roster in Keondre Coburn One of the more intriguing young players on the Tennessee Titans defense is nose tackle Keondre Coburn. A sixth-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2023 NFL Draft, he was surprisingly waived by the team last October. Coburn joined the Denver Broncos for about two weeks in November before they waived him as well. The Titans pounced on his availability, signing him off the Chiefs’ practice squad in December.
It’s somewhat rare that the No. 194 overall selection in the then-most recent (2023) draft would play for three franchises as a rookie. It’s admittedly a red flag, but the Titans jumped at the opportunity to sign Coburn, a former Texas Longhorns standout defender.
Due to injuries, Coburn featured somewhat prominently for the Titans towards the conclusion of the 2023 campaign. A big-bodied nose tackle, Coburn totaled 98 snaps for Mike Collapse

Tennessee Titans running back Tony Pollard is receiving recognition from mainstream media this offseason The Tennessee Titans’ decision to sign running back Tony Pollard to a three-year, $21.7 million contract with $10.4 million in guarantees in free agency was initially met with mixed reviews. Pollard was coming off his second consecutive 1,000-yard season with the Dallas Cowboys, but it wasn’t a particularly impressive 2023 campaign. The former Memphis standout averaged a career-low 4.0 yards per carry.
Furthermore, Pollard will be tasked with helping replace franchise legend Derrick Henry in the backfield. The team is going through a shift in offensive philosophy under new head coach Brian Callahan. Pollard will pair with sophomore back Tyjae Spears to form a one-two punch.

7/16/2024 - Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports
The right tackle battle is one of the biggest things to watch in training camp this year. It is no secret that the Tennessee Titans' offensive line was a disaster last season. Upgrading the line was the number one priority heading into the offseason. They spent their first round draft pick on JC Latham who will be the left tackle. They gave a 4-year $50 million contract to center Lloyd Cushenberry. One position they didn’t directly address is right tackle.
That means someone needs to emerge in training camp as the starter. Nicholas Petit-Frere is the guy at the top of the list for me. He started the majority of his 2022 rookie season after the Titans selected him in the third round. It wasn’t a great year for him, but he was solid over there. He never got going last year after missing the first four games due to a gambling suspension and then getting injured in his third game back.

The former All-Pro will be reunited with Dennard Wilson who was his coach with the New York Jets. Adams has spent the last four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.
The biggest question here is how will he be a culture fit in the locker room. There have been some issues with that at his previous stops. Wilson is obviously familiar with him, so he probably vouched for him before the signing.
The Titans never really filled the void at safety last year after Kevin Byard was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. Adams will join Malik Hooker on the backend of Wilson’s defense.
A lot of people around these parts wanted the Titans to draft Adams back in 2017 when they selected Corey Davis with the fifth overall pick. Adams has obviously had a better career in the league than Davis. We will see if he Collapse

One lesser-known Titans linebacker could throw a wrench into a crowded position room When discussing the Tennessee Titans’ off-ball linebackers for this coming season, the focus centers on Kenneth Murray, Jack Gibbens, and Cedric Gray. Understandably so. Murray was a free-agent addition, Gibbens appears to be a returning starter, and Gray is a rookie fourth-round pick.
From there, most Titans fans discuss the likes of Otis Reese IV and James Williams. Reese IV is entering his sophomore season after flashing down the stretch of the 2023 campaign as an undrafted free agent, and Williams is a rookie seventh-rounder that’s transitioning from safety to linebacker.

Do you agree with the ranking for the AFC South? Eric Edholm ranked the NFL divisions by the quarterback talent in each division. He ranked the AFC South seventh of the eight divisions. Ranking them only ahead of the NFC South. The AFC South has the youngest group of starters in the league with Trevor Lawrence and his three years of experience being the most tenured of the group.
These rankings are obviously pretty pointless. The AFC South does seem to have the biggest ceiling of the group. Will Levis of the Tennessee Titans and Anthony Richardson of the Indianapolis Colts are both unknowns. Levis didn’t start until late in the season behind a terrible offensive line. Richardson was hurt early in the season. Both guys have pretty high ceilings.
The question that is interesting to me on this front is where this group will be ranked next year. They could be as high as one if all of the guys in the group reach their full potential. What’s your Collapse

I do, however, wish they were wearing them twice again this year. Last year they wore them against the Atlanta Falcons and the Texans.
